Maru means "circle" or "rondel" and is a fairly common way to arrange other motifs. It is sometimes combined to motif names when circular arrangements are meant: for instance, a tsurumaru would be a circularly stylized crane.
Common Motif Pairings
- in kamon, nearly any sort of motif can be seen as a rondel arrangement
- in kitsuke items, flowers are the most commonly rondel-arranged motifs
