Okay... so how could we forget all about the ensembles and settle instead on kanzashi?
So, I figured that we should post here anything stunning that you have seen a maiko (or geiko, for that matter) wear! You can show photos of collars, obi, and kimono!
I think Mamechiho-san's Onshukai ensemble is one of the best!
And let's not forget her misedashi one...
(Yeah, I know what you think - I'm Mamechiho-san's biggest -er- stalker - er - fan!)
Kotoha's eri-kae one is drool-worthy!

OK, now clicking on the images will take you to the original Flickr page. Still a waste of time, and perfectly pointless, since one can obviously still get the image, save it, link it, etc. Thank you, I'll be careful to link any "spaceball.gif" image I'll post here now.

I hope you don't think I was frustrated at you or something! I realize the tone of my post is kind of ambiguous. The ><'' face was just because I find it a frustrating process as well. I'm sure the photographers all really appreciate the links though.
I've given up on trying to make sure my photos get credited, they keep ending up on 4chan and lord knows once something is there, it's all over the internet
Back on topic, I've been a huge fan of Kotoha's eri-kae outfit since we first saw it, and I'm also really fond of this outfit of Wakana's. I'm not sure why, I just love that purple colour, and the thick branches.
You already posted my favorite ones! (Mamechiho's brown ensemble and Kotoha's eri-kae ensemble.) I'll have to dig around a bit and find some other ones that i like.
This is just one of the most amazing kimono ensembles I've ever seen. Ichiyuri just pops out between Katsuyuki and Ayakazu since they are both wearing similarly pale kimono.

I adore the Miyagawa-cho Gion Matsuri ensemble: This was the best photo I got... I took a video of the dance, so I'll upload it later this week once I convert it...
ewoodham, the kimono in the second picture you posed (the kimono with the waves, under the Miyagawa-cho Gion Matsuri ensemble picture) is so stunning, I can't stop looking at it.
I also find this one very eye-catching (I'm afraid I don't know who it is though, and there's no name attached to the picture):

I totally agree!

What's so amazing about all the colors (especially that orange and red ensemble, Katycrayon) Is that they seem discordant at first, but then snap into this strange, vibrating harmony. It's like their trying to explode out from somewhere.
i thought it breathtaking as well when I first saw it, I know she's dancing but it looks like "Bam, look what I got on, you know you want, but you can't NYAH"
Yeah, ewoodham-san, I think Okinawa Soba (geez, that name always makes me go eat!) got you!
He always gets me with those entertaining captions of his... though sometimes I doubt if the girls in his photos are in fact geiko-san... maybe because of the fact he keeps referring to them as GEISHA GIRLS (which kinda connotes something bad for me... ) and because everyone in those days donned the shimada-mage and other traditional hairstyles seen on geiko-san today.
to add: there's an exact copy of that floating around ebay, and my friend won the auction! (and she gave it to me.) So that image you see up there is mine.

Saura, funny you say that. That hikizuri's still in use- I have a picture of a senior maiko that is not the one in the video (I forget he name) wearing it as my desktop laptop background.
That kimono belongs to Kimika and Kimiharu's Okiya in Miyagawa-cho. I've always wanted to find out who that girl in that video is but I've had no luck!
You don't really notice it after she had the obi and all the padding on, but when she was in her under-kimono, all I could think was "Wow! She has such a tiny little waist!"
Beautiful ensemble. I think I remember Kimika wearing it, didn't she?
It helped me find more pictures from this lovely Hiki :-) Although I must admid, that I prefered the combination with the Hakata-Obi from the video. I wunder what a set like this might cost
0____0 Yes, yes INDEED! I want one just like that... *shudders as she imagines the price tag for it* ...but, it has waves. Waves make everything awesome.

Yes it is. She's turned her collar recently, while her hair is styled in Osafune; being from Gion Kobu there is no regular occasion for her to wear it -especially not since she became a geiko. Also, her imooto Kosen is wearing rather senior kanzashi (February one!) so it was indeed taken this year.
I have seen pink han'eri on Shimbashi geisha, though.
I look at them vintage photo's and think. Why don't they make something like that anymore? as opposed to repeating floral patterns, I want Beautiful creatures. or unusual things you just dont see.
that koi obi posted either right below or above i think is a nice obi. Not an usual you'd see everyday.
Echoing the sentiments above, I love anything in kimono that is not normal. In fact, I avoid sakura like the plague- does that make me a bad kimono collector? haha.
While I believe that every kimono and obi is beautiful, special, and a unique work of art, I also agree that you don't seem to see the same variety anymore. I absolutely adore that deer obi and I think it's too bad you don't see that kind of thing anymore.
I find this June kanzashi to be stunning, and lovely in contrast to the kimono. Does anyone know what it is? This picture was definitely taken during June.

Toshiha, I think that kanzashi is red and white asago (morning glory). Either that, or it's peppermint candy! The kimono in the last photo reminds me of vintage furisode with the designs on the bottom.
And the two obi in Tengoku's post above are to. die. for. Actually, the whole ensembles are gorgeous (green asanoha hikizuri!) but it's sort of hard to look away from the obi!
Random floral kimono and a repeating pattern on the obi are so common, it's nice to see maiko wearing something unusual.

I'm thinking, since that Maiko with the special obi that Tengoku posted is wearing one of those over-kimonos for when it's raining... maybe it's a part of the over-kimono to protect the obi??? Just what I think it might be...hmm...
So here's my contributions ->
There's a kawaii neko [cat] on her obi!! ^^
Her kimono reflects the light so well! But I don't know why she's got so much red in her collar, she's in her Sakko stage... :S
They all have such vivid patterns! Especially Kikuyu's [she's the one from the docco Geisha Girl ] <3
Mamehana !!!!!! *fangirl moment* I love Morning Glories [Asagao], especially on my fave Maiko too !
Here's Kikuyu again, I LOVE her obi with Ajisai [Hydrangeas] on them!!
A very simple yet interesting pattern, does anybody know if there's a certain name for this style?

Maiko_of_Kyoto, I don't think I've ever seen a maiko's obi made so that the pattern lined up on the front when the top was folded down. That's really neat!
Pontocho maiko wear a red collar sprinkled with gold with their sakko hairstyle. I think Miyagawacho and Kamishichiken do this also. Hisano's whole ensemble is so luminous- I love the combination of steel blue and gold.

She isn't wearing a michiyuki ama, late Meiji kimono often had these black collar. However, I have found contradictory sources stating it was a widespread fashion, while others said it was a geisha-only thing casting them apart from respectable society. Just as her strange obi with its typical pattern, it is part of her costume. Also, the raincoats are worn over the obi and all.

Ooohh!! I must have looked at that pic of the special obi wrong.. whoops!
And ookini for the info on Pontocho/Kamishichiken sakko stage, I was really getting confused with that photo!! I love that combination of colours too, by the way

hibana My friend won the Ro Maiko Obi which has been posted in the Ebay- section. I´ve had the pleasure to see the Obi in reality two days ago. It has got a pattern that is exactly like the Catpattern on the obi (pic of Maiko of Kyoto). Complete when you fold it down. I hope I explained right

I guess I'd never noticed that some maiko obi did that! I know that geiko sometimes wear obi with the pattern on the drum continuing down over the "tare" end. I think they are called hikinuki obi? (which is confusing, because "hikinuki" also means "quick-change kabuki costume", and the two seem to be unrelated)
I wish I could see more of the blue kimono that Naosuzu of Kamishichiken is wearing. I love waves, and that color blue is so dreamy! For me, the most beautiful kimono are the ones with some of the simple, yet beautifully elegant designs.
Also, if one of you lovely ladies on this website happen to own this kimono, I am incredibly envious!
