Okaji Doll

Post by IG Team » Tue Jul 12, 2016 2:41 am

the Lady Ashuko:

I just got a vintage doll for Christmas and there was a handwritten sign on it that said "Okaji 1978." I did a cursory search to see if Okaji might be the name of the Geisha or the doll maker. All I was able to find was a picture in a very old book of geisha in Tokyo okiyas. In Shinbashi around the late 1800s-early 1900s there was a geisha named Okaji おかぢ

Does anyone know anything about her, or any others with that name prior to 1978? Thanks!

BebeTaian:

Okaji is a character from some famous kabuki plays, as well as a famous geisha.

It is all I could find. Apparently, there are many Okaji dolls out there...
