Silk Kanzashi and Starching

As an avid kanzashi maker, I use habutae silk exclusively for my kanzashi. If you have experience with this silk, what is your favorite thickness and for what motifs? I tend to use thinner silk for double-layered pieces. Also do most of you starch your silk (if you use starch at all) and if so do you use a spray-on? I confess I am heavy-handed when it comes to starching. I'd like to hear what other kanzashi artists like.
