Male Oiran/Tayuu?

TwoSpiritYuki:

Hello all! :coy:
I have a question and I thought I would start here-
I'm working on a character for a story, but I can find any references as to what I'm looking for: Male Oiran/Tayuu!
Is there such a thing, or an equivalent?
What kind of training would he go through, and how old would he start?
What clothing could he wear?
And is there any such thing as a cross dressing Oiran/Tayuu/other?
8-O
Now I'm not sure which he would be, but I think Tayuu? He lived and work in Shimabara,in the Edo period most of his life so...? Tayuu, I think?
I want him to have been so good at his job, that he only called the highest costumers.
Original character, original story, and I really want to be as authentic and true to history as I can.
Thank you in advance! :katana:

Tahanala:

Young male actors were well-known to have other sources of revenues, to the point of being an institutionalised practice: they were wakashù. They would dress as female prostitutes, though I'm not certain of which rank, but I believe they'd keep male hairstyles.

And some female prostitutes would capitalise on a masculine tweak in their attitude to mimic these men mimicking women (wakashù-joro.)
