Does anyone know whether there is a source for the hairpins, (not hana-tsumami kanzashi) the big gold-coloured sticks that is, that the girls wear?

thanks in advance

American Taikomochi:

ebay tends to have the golden colored hair sticks that I think you are looking for. That would be my best bet you should be able to get them fairly cheap. :] I bought a few for my aunt and got them for about $20. So I hope you find what you are looking for them. =D

Thanks for replying!

I'm not really finding what I want on eBay. What I'm looking for is something like the flattened, divided pins at the front of the mage.

Is there a search term I'm not using? Thanks for help...

I know the combs as 'kushi' and the big sticks as 'kogai' but that lowermost pin in the second eBay reference, i have no name for that...

i know no Japanese so i'm leery of the japan auctions and the proxies seem rather high priced. i'll have to go look at rakuten.

i've done some searching at the knowledge banks but again without some sort of search terms it's difficult to know what to look for. what a teleology (i think that's what that means)

thanks again

GoldenPhoenix:

Actually, if you search the word "odori" on YJA, you'll come across sets of oiran-like hair sticks. Particularly from this seller: kameyasomemonten They usually sell the pins in sets of four for about $60, but they only have the individual pins listed at the moment. They're listed for about $15 each.

Here are links to some of their Oiran kanzashi:

They'll probably list some sets of four again eventually if you're willing to wait.

Thanks GoldenPhoenix

btw i've checked out your tsumami kanzashi stuff and it's, well, just... wow

as an update, I nosed around here at IG and came across the Rakuten tute. I did only a bit of looking at Rakuten under the name 'kanzashi' and have found a set of four pins, or I think it's a set, i've sent an inquiry. Price more like $35 plus shipping.

Rakuten is easier for us poor english-speakers to use

Also, i've ordered the single pin at eBay and i am contemplating pulling a mould off it and offering these pins in resin, which may be a more cost-effective option for us hoi-polloi ;-)

thanks again

Seriously. They don't have the tayuu items listed on that website, but I go to that shop every time I'm in Kyoto and trust me, they do stock real tayuu items -- even that big silver bridge-part (help, what's that called??) that the tayuu wear. Also the owner and his son speak English pretty well, so if you emailed them and told them what you want I'm sure they would help you. They're pretty used to dealing with folks who are interested in these things. If you can't find the email on the website (which wouldn't surprise me -- I looked and I can't find it, but I also need to be going to bed now), PM me. I have their email around here somewhere and I can give it to you.

Update:

I've purchased a cute hairpin ('mimikaki-kanzashi' style) and have made a mould off it. I'm experimenting with resins. when I find a nice golden clear resin (epoxy, maybe?) and attain a pretty finish, I'm thinking I might make these available.

The pin I bought is a single stick (not split) so I'll have to do some customizing of the cast pieces to get the split that I want.

The mould is "Amazing Mold Putty" which I bought at Hobby Lobby, here's their website
http://www.amazingmoldputty.com/

The "Amazing" resin is white but is paintable. I don't think this stuff will work, though, as it's a bit more flexible than I want, never mind the white colour. Next I will try WEST system epoxy (I have sailboats and work with this stuff frequently.)

Just thought I'd pass it along... you can make a hairpin set!

Dr.B:

As for as the sits you have all posted go the links have stopped working or they no longer have the kanzashi.

I am still looking for affordable alternatives and I would really love some advice.
what I relay want are 9 long orange/yellowish tortes shell looking hairpins like thees

http://www.pinterest.com/pin/309552174357112501/

My main problem is that I can't fined pins like this in bulk and when I do fined some one selling more then one pin it's never less then $30+ shipping per pin :(
I have found a few possible alternatives but I would love some input.

1.) I am rather fond of this set but I can't fined more then this set on e-bay and the dealer says they don't have any more. If any of you know where I can find more I would love you for ever

2.) This set is cute and cheep and would only cost me $12+ shipping to get enough but I feel that it is lacking as it has nothing on the end. Its more Oiran then Tayuu.

3.)Abstract Chinese phoenix horn hair pins. I am not sure if its $12.80 per pin or for a set of 5.

4.) More Abstract Chinese horn hair pins. Agin not sure of price yet.
