Re: Self made Kimono dump!!!! XD (new Editions)

koneko: That haori is amazing! You could totally wear it with Western clothes as well :) Did you also use the same book for a pattern or something else?

Yukata Made Simple booklet

My Japanese dance school put together a booklet in English on how to make a yukata and I've just finished making my second yukata using this book. The first time around, I had guidance from one of the teachers. This time around I did it independently and took notes on where I felt the book needed sl...

Re: Round and flat obijime, how do you store them?

I gave up on trying to keep them folded; I've got them hanging on a tie hanger in my closet instead. It works great! :sword:

Re: Kanzashi & Haneri - how do you store them?

My kanzashi are wrapped in tissue paper and small boxes that are then put in a clear plastic box that lives in my tansu. Not ideal but it works for now  I currently keep my han-eri, date-eri, and kakae-obi in a box that an expensive laptop came in (you know, the heavy kind with a smooth semi-...

Re: Storing obiage

I've tried folding and rolling and neither worked well in my small tansu drawer. I've switched making paper tubes out of acid-free printing paper and tape, rolling the obiage up on the tube, and then securing it with a piece of yarn tied around the middle (kind of looks like the classic image of a d...

Re: moving your wafuku

I just moved a couple miles from my old place and, since it was so close, I decided to move them in their tansu drawers. Of course, I didn't let anyone ELSE move those drawers. They fit nicely stacked across the back seat of my compact car and stacked easily at the new place while the rest o...

Re: Hanging kimono in your closet (short-medium term storage)

Kimono should be well aired before being folded so hanging them up on a kimono hanger, especially if you can do so out of direct sunlight, is a good plan. I have dance practice every week and my yukata and kimono spend at least several days hanging before folding... My practice yukata sometimes don'...

Lyrics to my OTHER test dance Kuruwa Hakkei

So, again, my Japanese is too weak for me to understand the lyrics to my dance and I was wondering if anyone would care to translate for me?

Re: Lyrics to my test dance Shiokumi

I'd still love if anyone wanted to translate for me  Not sure if it will help but here's the information on this dance available on http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/kabukikool/kabuki_program_2016_15.html Shiokumi / 汐汲 —Scooping Up Seawater— This dance was first performed in 1811 as part of...

Re: Buyou songs - help with translation?

I can't help with translation but I do have Itako Dejima in Japanese if that helps anyone else out there! I found it when I was learning Shiokumi :superhappy: 潮来出島 (Itako Dejima) 潮来出島の真菰の中に 菖蒲咲くとはしおらしい サアサよいやサア 宇治の柴船 早瀬を渡る わたしゃ君ゆえ のぼり船 サアサよいやサア 花はいろく五色に咲けど 主に見かえる花はない サアサよいやさ 花を一もと わすれて来たが 後で咲くや開くやら ...
